The Diploma in journalism, communication & media studies (DJCM) is designed to educate students and help them understand the theoretical and practical application of journalism. DJCM is a program that targets A’ and O’ Level leavers and certificate holders and other professionals who would wish to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in preparation of written, visual, or audio material intended for dissemination through public media with reference to factual, ongoing events of public concern. The learners will be exposed to a variety of journalism skills which are essential in the current public media environment.
Program learning outcomes
By the end of the program, students will be able to:
- Analyze and critique the role of journalism in society and apply the acquired skills in solving some of the problems within the public and private media
- Critically explain the evolution of journalism and relate it to the current journalism environment
- Assess the implications of the changing trends in the social, political and economic issues in the profession and how they affect it
